As the board of inquiry found, the Israelis did try to verify just that, and were told no, it's not American!

Of course, no evidence will satisfy you.

I find it Interesting that the Israeli apologists complain about the lack of a Hebrew translator on board the Liberty. Are they saying that the Israeli military doesn't have people who speak English? That is truly absurd.

Notice how the Israelis actually made a concerted effort to block communications with the Liberty:

<<< A "USS Liberty" survivor, Lt. Cmdr. David Edwin Lewis, says, "The Israelis obviously had sufficient time to plan their armament load. There were apparently heat-seeking missiles used to take out the tuning coil of every antenna, there were fragmentation bombs used to take out the parabolic dish fore and aft. On the first strafing run virtually all communications and all means of survival were destroyed. If it was an accident, it was the best prepared accident on Earth." >>>

As to motive for the USS Liberty attack, at the very moment the USS Liberty was off shore near El Arish, Israeli forces were executing up to 1,000 Egyptian prisoners of war at El Arish almost within our sight.
