you're probably right about Lee's philosophical underpinnings but so what? She fully intended to make a statement by her vote and fully intended that her views on the matter be heard - and you heard her, but so did a lot of other people who did not reject them out of hand. Even now there are people on both sides of the aisle (Republicans and Democrats) who are concerned about possible abridgement of civil rights in the name of finding the enemies within; your pal Bob Barr is among them:
"Representative Bob Barr, a conservative Republican of Georgia, has been one of the House
Judiciary Committee's most vocal critics of the administration's legislation. Mr. Barr argues that
some provisions in the proposal — for example, tougher new money laundering statutes to deal
with terrorist organizations — are areas of consensus and could be passed very quickly. But
others, he says, need careful scrutiny, like allowing a wider use of material obtained in grand
juries."

If you don't like the allusion to "Cracker" then you just might rethink your own use of invective and labelling; otherwise you'll be responded to in kind.
