It was easier for the Israeli Government to sink the ship, avoid the discovery of nuclear facilities that were denied by Israel as having, and apologize later.

Can't buy that Nadine... There was a HUGE US FLAG flying from the USS Liberty..

Furthermore, it did not resemble ANY SHIP the Egytians possessed.

Finally, one might excuse the air attacks as a mistake since identification can be tricky, but having their torpedo boats come within machine gun range and raking survivors and lifeboats, while a 7'x13' US flag was flying was simply beyond credibility.

Until the SIGINT records are released, we'll simply never know. And I have to accept that, and decide to move on.

But I certainly don't trust the Israelis to do anything other than what they consider to be in their own personal interests, even if they compromise those of the US.

In fact, I'm still not convinced that the Israelis didn't have foreknowledge of this attack on the WTC and failed to warn the US adequately. They told us they had information about a 200 person group working within the US, but claimed they didn't know what they were up to. If they can know the general number of people involved in these various cells, something tells me they knew far more about their operational plans.

But I can see why they wouldn't consider it in their interest to tell us everything. After all, what better event could occur than having the US attacked for the first time in 136 years on their own soil and thrust onto the side of Israel with regard to dealing with the extremist groups opposing Israel.

Churchill knew about the attack on Pearl Harbor (the Brits had broken the Japanese naval code), but he didn't tell Roosevelt. Why? Because he needed the US to make the commitment to entering the war because they couldn't defeat the Nazis by themselves.

Do I blame Churchill?? Not particularly... It would have been nice to tell us so we could have had a "surprise" waiting for the Japanese, but then they would have lost access to the Japanese naval code (which would have been immediately changed).
