"Actually, I believe the term they use is 'nigga' as in 'hey nigga waz up?' Sign of affection amoungst homeys (the adj. used in noun form) in the 'hood. Don't suggest you try line yourself. Though you are garnering quite a crowd that would."

All variants are used: nigger, nigga, niggaz, etc.

If you are trying to imply, as some have tried, that this is never used in the "nigger" form and that it is just a term of endearment, you are of course way off base.

Besided hearing blacks derogatorily referring to other blacks as "niggers," the written word is telling. Try searching on Google (better hurry, as Google may be bowdlerizing text soon).

The usage is telling. I was at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk about a year ago and heard two blacks joking loudly at another black man pushing a broom: "Look at that nigger, workin' for whitey."

This one line both combined a slur and a condemnation of honest work.

So, don't lay that jive on me about how da bruthas only use de N-word when day be hangin' wiff de homeys.
