I wonder about the strength of the holders of these former momo names? -------------- A Bigger Telecom Tech Question Gets an Answer By James J. Cramer 09/28/2001 02:57 PM EDT URL: thestreet.com . Sometimes you can't bank on getting through when you call my radio show, but your question is begging to be answered. That's how I feel about John S.'s inquiry, which I just received. I know how bearish you've been on telecom tech and the communications sector. ... Kudos to somebody who got it right. My question is ... at this point is there anything worth owning (buying) in that sector? I'm just looking at Juniper (JNPR:Nasdaq - news - commentary) , Brocade (BRCD:Nasdaq - news - commentary) , Sycamore (SCMR:Nasdaq - news - commentary) , Extreme Networks (EXTR:Nasdaq - news - commentary) , ONI Systems (ONIS:Nasdaq - news - commentary) , Sonus Networks (SONS:Nasdaq - news - commentary) , JDS Uniphase (JDSU:Nasdaq - news - commentary) and Corning (GLW:NYSE - news - commentary) among others having come down so much. Are most if not all of those basically going the way of Exodus, or is there a price at which it would make sense to buy any of these? Great question, John. First, I am very bearish on that segment. Very bearish. For three reasons: one, the business is bad and getting worse. Two, the holders are bad and getting worse. Three, the tax loss selling hasn't even begun yet, but when we come back next week it is all you will hear about. So these suckers are going lower. Oh, please don't lump in Brocade, that's not telecom. It is just expensive, too expensive to own, even down here. But it is the best in the lineup that you have given me. Remember, the momentum funds will puke up everything by year's end. Then maybe we can discover nuggets in the puke (Brocade below $10) and we can scoop up bargains then.
