RE:"AMD marketing needs to hit the airwaves, including both radio and television, and start conveying clear messages. Something like "Most people think a faster clock speed means better performance. Most people are wrong." Then they should be hammering this message into people's heads over and over again."

Well, I don't think AMD has the money to do it over the airwaves, at least TV and they certainly aren't clever enough to do it without a lot of money...
If it was me I'd try to educate at the salesperson level.
I'd do seminars for the employees of major retail chains and buyers for large corporations. I'd put AMD reps in major retail stores...have reps vist corporate buyers...
TV and radio would be gravy.

These reps could be armed with your bar graphs.

Tench: I'm not even a marketing kind of guy, yet I understand basic stuff like this. Too bad AMD marketing is trying to be too clever for their own good, a criticism usually reserved for Intel's engineers.

Ahhh, but you forget! AMD's marketing department (agency?) came up with&#133 quint&#133 errr&#133 quintiformance?&#133 quintiherz?&#133 Ahh yes, quintispeed!
