People who talk about how well HM did in the Depression often forget that in the middle of it all, FDR raised the government's buying price for gold from $20 to $35, immediately devaluing the dollar enormously and raising profit margins for gold miners by 75%. And that was a time when you could hire a yard man for as little as 25 cents an hour.
