this arrived today from Motley Fool.

"Don't Buy Sector Mutual Funds"

fool.com

Sector-based stock mutual funds are Wall Street's effort to soothe you with groupthink and take your money. With biotechnology as an example, it's clear that they are marketing ploys only and offer the investor nothing positive for investing. Either you have the time to choose individual stocks, or you should stick to a broad market index fund.

This year, I think that this might be not a bad idea. Two or three of the leaders in the best sectors is a good investment still but a broad range of stocks is going to have some super dogs in this market and I believe that Fido (pun intended) can not just limit its picks to its best ten ideas. If so, the funds would be doing much better. The rotation is so fast that it is dizzying and no fun anymore, at least to me. I've got a huge amount (for me) in select mm and will let it sit for a while. Anyone understand the fidelity basket concept on the loads. Granted the loads on some of my accounts was paid on maybe 10,000 and now the amount is 15 times that amount. I would like to take a small portion and add it to Low Price Stock or something. I think small caps have the best chance and want someone that has the best information. Will still listen to you Julius, but these are very different times. Sharon
