Here in the US people have the right to speak out in favor of pacifism. There were massive anti-war demonstrations in the US during the Viet-Nam war. I realize - because I was there, marching in the demonstrations - that a small but vocal minority heckled the demonstrators, and there was occasionally violence against demonstrators but it was the exception, not the rule. "Anti-war demonstrators march peacefully" doesn't make headlines.

Conscientious objectors are exempt from military service during times of draft, but they must perform alternative service.

Here's a story about anti-war protests here in D.C. I predict that no one will heckle them - anti-war demonstrations have become a fact of life here.
