About language, they just had a repeat episode on PBS where they found deaf kids who hadn't learned language because of the war in Nicaragua. After the war, they assembled these kids into schools and tried to teach them sign. Surprise, surprise, they invented their own language as opposed to having a foreign language foisted upon them. To contrast this, they had a woman who had lived alone in the countryside (also in Nicaragua). She had never developed the ability to communicate effectively in any medium. The window, for her, had closed. The language window starts closing for most people around age 7. If you haven't learned HOW to learn language by then, you will never learn ANY language. After you learn how to acquire language, you can acquire any language.
