Thomas, I have solved the USS Liberty riddle. Haven't you seen my post? Of course, Israel was forced to claim it was accidental, to cover up yet another war crime by Lyndon Mephistopheles Johnson. If you recall Johnson's modus operandi, he was always eager to sacrfice lives in covert and illegal operations; never, of course, did he tell the saliors or soldiers that he had sent them on an illegal mission. The same happened to the Liberty. Read this on the so-called Gulf of Tonkin Attack: The official story was that North Vietnamese torpedo boats launched an "unprovoked attack" against a U.S. destroyer on "routine patrol" in the Tonkin Gulf on Aug. 2 -- and that North Vietnamese PT boats followed up with a "deliberate attack" on a pair of U.S. ships two days later. The truth was very different. Rather than being on a routine patrol Aug. 2, the U.S. destroyer Maddox was actually engaged in aggressive intelligence-gathering maneuvers -- in sync with coordinated attacks on North Vietnam by the South Vietnamese navy and the Laotian air force. North Vietnam, like any nation would, took action against the spy vessel. The men of the U.S.S. Maddox had no idea of what Johnson was up to. He pulled the same crap again with the hapless men of the Liberty.
