Dave,

I didn't think everyone said it would not come down, I think the prediction from some was that it would always have a bigger die and hence cost more to make. Plus the blue metal heat-sink plates costs money too.

But the prices in all of PC land imploded because of oversupply and lack of demand, sdr, ddr, drd, HD :: too much inventory, too little buyers, so rimm prices have to come down too.

Also, I think 128MB is way too little for what I'm trying to do. You also need 128+128=256 to use an i850, that makes $78, but I'm using more.

Many yrs ago, I think I once saw rimms with 16bit and 32bit wide configurations. If these modules were to be used instead, that should avoid having to buy two sticks.

I've been trying to get DV->DVD compression to run faster. So far, I'm not sure if 1.5Gb of ram would make any difference. Probably not, but 1GB of rimm will probably cost too much for me.

Between real-time ligos mpeg2 that looks granular and slow as mollases overnight good quality compression, I'd still take the slower better qual one. I just need more machines so that I can do a few tapes every night. I have about 5-6 yrs worth of DV to make into DVD-Rs

The only good deal I saw in Fry's was the pioneer DVD-RW blanks for 14.99. I picked up quite a few. Their DVD-R was selling for 11. Much higher than the 7s available from many places now.

Hi Dave B; Re: "And some people said the price would never come down."

Do you have any links to anyone saying that the price (of RIMM modules) "would never come down"?

Or are you just making this up? I, for one, have repeatedly stated on this thread that I expected RIMMs to eventually reach a 50% premium over DIMMs.
