And the Egyptians have received some $40 Billion in US foreign aid over the past 20 years and all they have to show for it is similar poverty and repression of minorities the existed at the beginning of that aid (although now they have new telecommunications and sewage systems funded by our assistance, as well as US made planes and tanks) And from our "friends" over at FAS, we have a list of military assistance provided to the Egyptians, including amphibious tank landing ships (why??): fas.org And by reviewing aid to Israel, it appears we sold them a tank landing ship as well... Are we trying to set them up for some kind of Mid-east "d-day".. ;0) fas.org And as for the comments about being "bought with greenbacks", I would say that the same pretty much applies for everyone else around the area... Certainly one can look at the "greenbacks" that Arafat has received from the Arabs around the area, and which he retains under his personal control. And I would opine that Israelis represent a far better representation of western values of democracy than any Arab state in the region, where both Christians and Jews are oppressed and denied political representation.
