The EPC has a more neutral reading which is surprisung given that the COMPX test the 1500 resistance level 5 times intra-day and failed to break above it decisively and the fact that the Fed meets on Tuesday. This is worrisomes as the market appears to have priced in an additional 1/2 point reduction in interest rates. If they don't get the rate cut the obvious direction for the market is down under its own weigh as any near term catalyst will have been removed.

COMPX system now on a sell. SOX system on a sell.

Lowest of the Low
By:Adam Martin
Stocks finished strongly today, with both indexes falling into a range after leaping up into the green in early trading due largely to good news on the economic front. Consumer confidence came in lower than August, but higher than expectations, and takes into account the aftermath of the Sept. 11th attacks. There have been some earnings warnings, but there is sentiment among traders and analysts that we've seen the bottom, and that's bringing a tone of optimism to the trading floors. Analysts feel that although we may revisit that bottom, we've seen the worst. On the other hand, some say that the upward push may be attributable to today being the last day of the quarter, and key market players attempting to make their portfolios look good with a buying push. In other good news, the gross domestic product number from the second quarter showed growth, although weak. If the third quarter, which ends today, shows any growth, or even remains unchanged, analysts will be pleasantly surprised.

Hi Harry. At some point, some sort of event/news would come along to push us thru 1530. Overall, unless something new comes along, all the bad news was reflected in the nasdaq @ 1387.

We could test ~1400 a few more times but it should hold.

What happened on Sept 11 and how it pushed the markets/economy lower should make the comeback even stronger next year.
