As I told you, I think the answer is yes.

For most of the people in the country, I don't think there is a strong impulse to initiate violence, but I think there is a very strong impulse to return violence with violence. Close to 90% of people in the US want us to "get" bin Laden, about 75% want us to wipe out the Taliban. 30% want all Arabs in the US put into internment camps.

As for the military class and military ideals, the US government has allocated $325 billion in 2002 for discretionary spending for national defense - I think that number will be revised upwards as our current military involvement continues - that's about half of discretionary spending. In addition, about $50 billion for various programs for veterans. Total outlays in 2002 for US budget is not quite $2 trillion.

It's a huge part of our economy, and it's one of the things our government does really well.
