15 Inch LCD Monitor Shootout

Pixel Refresh Rate
As we've said time and time before, pixel refresh rate is the key to having an LCD monitor suitable for gaming. The lower the pixel refresh rate, the less blurring and image ghosting you'll have on the screen. Pixel refresh rate is measured in milliseconds (how many ms it takes for the pixel to change from one color to the next). Unfortunately, most manufacturers don't disclose their pixel refresh rates, usually because they're quite terrible.

This latest generation of LCD's is much, much, (much!) better in this department. All three LCDs have pixel refresh rates high enough for gamers, although some are certainly better than the others.

The Solarism monitor is the best by far in this area, as it's super-high 13ms refresh rate allows for zero ghosting on the screen. NEC's 1530V is slightly worse, as ghosting is very hard to come by and certainly doesn't affect gameplay by distrating you. The Viewsonic seems to have the highest pixel refresh rate, as blurring was noticable on a few occasions. Still, the blurring wasn't even bad enough here to really bother us. The Solarism is the best choice for games with a lot of on-screen movement, but all of these monitors are good for most games, no matter what the speed.
