They MUST want to be freed and live a better life.
I don't know that a broad sweep of the paintbrush is justified when describing general populations of a country.
If we never rise above our self-righteous observations and conclusions on "whats good for the world", what hope is there?

I was referring to the Taliban leaders, UBL and his followers. The people of Afghanistan are helpless in the face of it. They are the ones under the gun with only their fists to fight back with. I did not mean to nor was I painting the entire society with your "broad brush."

Given the means and support, I expect the people of Afghanistan to rebel. They have been forced into mud huts by so called leaders that hide in caves.

Reiterating the conditions and way of life in Afghanistan is not a self righteous observation it is simply fact.

Being an enlightened, evolved, privileged or just plain lucky human being and wishing the same for my fellow humans or wishing that they were not subjected to the atrocities evident in Afghanistan, is natural.

Whenever an American gives an opinion about how appalling conditions in foreign countries affect them, we are lectured on how unwelcome it is to offer our "self righteous opinion". As if we don't have a clue as to the horrors our fellow humans are subjected. We know, we care and we very much wish to help.
