Word is that the receivers, Carter in particular, last week began changing play-calls in the huddle. And that was even after head coach Denny Green took over the play-calling chores from frustrated coordinator Sherm Lewis. Things were so bad last year on the sideline that Lewis escaped to the coach's box upstairs this season for some sanctuary and sanity. But with the inmates running the huddle like it's an asylum, it seems no place is safe from the zaniness, as the Vikings struggle to locate some kind of rhythm. According to scouts from other teams who have reviewed the video of Minnesota's two defeats, there is no flow to the offense at all. Most teams, one top-notch personnel guy pointed out to ESPN.com, call a series trying to accomplish a goal, to set up a play or plays. "But the Vikings," he said, "they just calls plays to try to get the ball to individuals. They're just trying to appease people instead of developing some sort of pattern to what they do. It's a terribly disjointed offense right now." If there is a plus to the Minnesota shortcomings right now it's that maybe people will quit attempting to bestow sainthood on Carter, a me-first player who has managed to fool lots of folks over the last several seasons. >>>
