However this would imply that Islam was meant for a very focused audience with a common ethnic and cultural background. Thus making Islam not a universal ideaology to be followed by masses but indstead a cult like belief to be followed by a few with a common cultural background.

That is religion in a nutshell. Religions are shaped tremendously by the cultures from which they spring. That is why it is so silly for Christian missionaries to run over to Korea and literally convert half the nation.

As for the argument that women are treated much better in Islam than in Jewdism or Christianity... Now that is also an interesting notion. However to give you an analogy, if you can accept the notion of putting a positive spin on the Nazi SS during WWII and to argue that whatever they did, they did it for the best interest of German nationals, then I guess the positive spin on Islam treating women in a humanistic manner can also be accepted!

Now, you have gone off the deep end, and you are revealing the fact that you didn't read my link. It gave extensive examples of how the Koran treats women better than either Testament. And, it gave extensive examples of real life behavior throughout history that corroborated this view. The point was that current Islamic cultures have gone away from the actual writings of their religion. Perhaps because this is in direct conflict with the premise of this thread, you don't want to hear the message.

"Islam should be viewed as a religion that had immensely improved the status of women and had granted them many rights that the modern world has recognized only this century."
