Michael,
These lower targets with buys are actually good for amat investors. It gives the analysts much room to raise targets as they are achieved. They can take credit for the full run up and if the market stalls and amat stays at 28, then they havent taken a big hit. This strategy goes hand in hand with the expectations of better comparisons originally thought to be coming in the first quarter but perhaps now delayed. mike

It is a little early to start discounting cycle peak earnings. The numbers are probably ballpark based on current visibility and recent peak earnings and production capacity. AMAT held up very well in 1998, but the numbers presented suggest it may do worse this time.

I take the recommendation to mean, AMAT is the gorilla so BUY it in spite of our numbers.
