The problem is the least likely method of attack with use by a nuclear weapon is a ballistic missile. Cruise Missiles, suitcases, or sub launched cruise missiles or torpedoes or a stinger off a fishing boat are more likely means of attacking to US or other allies. The shield would be useless against these types of attack and has a high probability of failure against a ballistic and is extremely expensive
