Re: . I was just about to commit to three server purchases using Tyan760MP Mobo's.

We've been buying new systems, and upgrading old systems, using Tyan's less expensive Tiger board. The cost is very low, and the performance is flat out spectacular.

Note that the Tiger uses a standard power connector, while the Thunder uses a special one - and they aren't interchangeable. We've been using Sparkle SP400 power supplies, Matrox G450 video cards, both SCSI (adaptec controllers) and IDE, copper and optical NICs, and the systems have been rock solid, inexpensive, and superfast.

We know that the 760MP platform is strategic for AMD and will be around for a while. The PIII is a dead end for Intel and will disappear if they ever get anything approaching reasonable performance out of Foster.

Gook luck whatever you decide to do.

Aj,

Great post.

I do think folks are too emotional.

AMD is a very high risk play and its survival as a CPU company will rest on the 32 bit performance of hammer and an unproven SOI process.

A product that is a year away at best.

Having said that i picked up some more AMD at 7.75.

I do think that flash will recover by mid next year and its value alone is in $20 range.

Once Jerry retires then i suspect AMD will become more rational and even consider selling off CPU's.

Just my .02

regards,

Kash

Dear AJ:

You will be sorry you did. The P3-1.13 will not hold a candle to the performance of a dual 1.0G Palomino MP box much less either the 1.2G, 1.4G or 1.5G variants. You are about to pay too much for less performance. Just look at the benchmarks of Anand's site's DB serving. The AMD MP box far outran both dual P3s and P4s. Why spend more for less?

Pete

AJ,

Re: "You'd should consider taking your loses and moving on."

Good post ... You may be an "Old AMD Bull", but from the responses
its clear there will always continue to be AMD "dinosaurs" ... Ready
for "extinction". For Dan3 and Pete - Remember, "Go to the light". <ggg>

Make It So,
Yousef
