My concern with LEXG is that many phenotypes will go undetected. This one didn't.

Irrational? For 18 months after a discovery, one is flying blind with respect to competing patent applications. So..... yes.

However, this is a simple in vivo read-out for the knockout of a single gene. In that sense and IMO, no.
