New Lineup of High-End Professional Series Monitors also Introduced

HOUSTON, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing to provide the most powerful

design, technical and financial users, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ)
today unveiled the affordable new Evo Workstation W4000, featuring Intel(R)

with Intel Xeon(R) 2 GHz processors and a best-in-class lineup of new

According to a recent IDC report, Compaq occupied the number one market
position in the economic / financial segment for the second quarter of 2001
with 39.8 percent of units shipped and 42.8 percent of revenue.
Additionally, a Gartner Dataquest study on the worldwide mechanical
computer-aided design (MCAD) and architecture, engineering and construction
CAD (AEC) markets reports Compaq captured the market share leader position in
number of units shipped for 2000 in those markets as well. Compaq sold 34.5
percent of all units shipped in the MCAD market (up 4 percent from 1999) and
45 percent of all units in the AEC market. For the Windows NT/2000 segment,
Compaq shipped more units than the next two competitors combined, with 67
percent of the AEC market and 40.5 percent of the MCAD market.
"The new Compaq Evo workstations are the next evolution for CAD, financial
and other data and graphics-intensive application users, featuring the latest
technology advances for those looking to run continually more complex
applications," said Keith LeFebvre, director of Workstation and Thin Client
Business in Compaq's Access Business Group. "Compaq workstations are
optimized for the CAD/CAM and financial analysis markets, and the market share
numbers show that our design and strong ISV relationships provide complete
computing solutions for engineering and financial applications."
The introduction of the Evo Workstation W4000 strengthens Compaq's market
share position by expanding the company's workstation offerings to small or
more budget-conscious businesses. Starting at $1,064, the new Evo Workstation
W4000 delivers affordable performance with the latest in Intel Pentium 4
processors up to 2 GHz, but won't strain the budget of the small business or
entry-level workstation customer.
Available in a convertible minitower or a space-saving small form factor
chassis, the industry's smallest workstation form factor, the single-processor
Evo Workstation W4000 provides ultimate flexibility for the financial trading
market and other limited-space environments. The Evo Workstation W4000
features the newest Intel 845 chipset with AGP 4X capability, integrated Ultra
ATA/100 controller, PC 133 ECC SDRAM support and a front side bus speed of 400
MHz for excellent video and audio performance.
Also featuring the widest selection of high-performance graphics;
including NVIDIA Quadro2 EX, Matrox Millennium G450 and Matrox Millennium G200
Quad Multi-Monitor; the Evo Workstation W4000 is an ideal workstation for
entry-level digital content creation (DCC), MCAD, geographic information
systems (GIS) and financial analysis professionals.
The reliable Evo Workstation W4000 also includes integrated solutions for
easy management within an IT environment. Standard ECC memory with pre-
failure notification provides a more stable platform, and Compaq's strong ISV
partnerships have ensured that the W4000 is software-tested and certified on
key workstation applications, which means no hardware / software conflicts and
reduced total cost of ownership.

Enhanced Evo Workstations W6000 and W8000
In addition to the introduction of the Evo Workstation W4000, Compaq also
announced enhancements to the Evo Workstations W6000 and W8000 unveiled in
May. Both the W6000 and W8000 are now available with up to two Intel Xeon(R)
2 GHz processor with the 860 chipset and 36 GB Ultra 160 SCSI drives at 15,000
rpms.
Ideal for financial trading and analysis applications, electronic design
automation (EDA), mainstream CAD/CAE, DCC and software development
applications, the Evo Workstation W6000 is an affordable dual-processor-
capable system featuring five bays (two available) with optional CD-ROM, DVD-
ROM or CD-RW and up to 2 GB maximum memory support. The Evo Workstation W6000
is priced at just $1929.
Also available with optional CD-RW, the rack-mountable Evo Workstation
W8000 features seven bays (4 available) and supports up to 4 GB of memory,
making it a scalable, expandable system powerful enough for the most demanding
MCAD, CAE, 3D rendering, animation, video editing or GIS applications,
starting at just $2,224. Like the new Evo Workstation W4000, the W8000 is
also designed for convenience with headphone, microphone and I/O ports located
on the front of the chassis.

New Professional Series Flat Screen and Flat Panel Monitors
Compaq also unveiled four new alternatives in monitors: the P720, P920 and
P1220 flat-screen Professional Series CRT monitors, and the TFT8030 and
TFT7020 flat panel displays.
Offering top-quality precision imaging for business customers, Compaq's
new Professional Series color monitors are the most technologically advanced
CRTs on the market today, utilizing the Diamondtron(R) Natural Flat screen
technology to provide the sharpest picture available while reducing glare and
minimizing image distortion. Designed to ease eyestrain, irritation and
fatigue, the P-series monitors are ideal for workstation and power computing
customers, such as graphic artists, CAD/CAM users, desktop publishers,
financial analysts, software developers or programmers who need the highest
performance monitor available.
Compaq P-series monitors also feature ColoReal color management
technology, which offers the most accurate color transfer from the Internet.
Designed to accompany Evo desktops and workstations in a carbon/silver color
combination, the Compaq P-series monitors are available in 17-inch (P720) for
$329, 19-inch (P920) for $509 or 22-inch (P1220) for $909.
For customers with space constrained environments or who prefer a sleek,
minimalist design, the new TFT7020 and TFT8030 are ideal flat panel monitors.
Featuring a viewing area comparable to a 19-inch CRT and a carbon/silver
color scheme, the $799 TFT7020 is an affordable complement to any Evo
workstation or desktop. The 17-inch TFT7020 also offers dual connections --
analog and digital -- integrated speakers, and is compatible with all standard
swing-arm and wall mounts, as well as all Video Electronics Standard
Association (VESA) compliant platforms.
Available Nov. 15, the 18-inch TFT8030 is the most advanced flat panel
display on the market and provides crystal-clear 1280X1024 SXGA native
resolution with .28 pixel pitch, thin border bezels, 16.7 million colors and
17 different display modes. At $1,299, the TFT8030 is especially useful on
trading floors and in other applications requiring tiling of multiple units
for a maximum display surface in constrained space environments. The
monitor's long-life backlights offer brightness levels up to 250 nits, while
full-screen image quality delivers a crisp, clear picture across the entire
screen at every resolution. Video inputs allow the unit to receive live or
taped video feeds and connect to multiple inputs with multiple graphics cards.
The TFT8030 is also compatible with emerging digital card technology for
seamless, digital, pure play imaging from the newest compatible hardware and
software.
