Agreement Provides Complete End-to-End Solution for Carriers and Service Providers

ALAMEDA, Calif., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Netopia, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTPA, news, msgs), a market leader in broadband gateways and Web platform software designed for distributed, small and medium enterprises, today announced that Alcatel, the world leader in broadband access, has certified and selected Netopia's 4753 SHDSL integrated access device (IAD), for use with its voice over broadband (VoBB) solution. Using Netopia's IAD, Alcatel now can deliver an end-to-end VoBB solution to its carrier and service provider customers worldwide.

Netopia and Alcatel have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding enabling Alcatel to resell and deliver Netopia's 4753 SHDSL IAD along with the Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM), the world's most widely deployed broadband access platform, the Alcatel 7310 Loop Voice Gateway (LVG), ATM and Class 5 switches.

"Alcatel is pleased to be working with Netopia," said Willem Verbiest, vice president of Alcatel's wireline broadband activities. "We have chosen Netopia's IAD because of its business class voice, data and symmetric (SHDSL) performance. Netopia's contribution strengthens and diversifies Alcatel's Voice over DSL offering, key to addressing the business access market."

"We are thrilled that Alcatel has certified Netopia's IADs and entered into this distribution relationship," said Michael Trupiano, senior vice president and general manager at Netopia.
