First Take
"Global chip sales fell 3.4% in August from the previous month, the smallest decline since December 2000. With anecdotal reports of improved inventories and stabilizing expansion plans within the industry, it appears the industry was reaching a bottom in the current cycle toward the end of the third quarter. Now with a renewed, economy-wide slowdown in capital spending occurring, another quarter of downward sales is likely."
