hold on there. i want you to try to tell me that this country thrives on illegal immigration.

It provides the cheap source of labor needed so that you can keep eating produce from the fields at a reasonable cost. Back in the 80s a couple of senators in a typical grand-standing manner tightened the borders with Mexico. Within a year farmers in California were facing bankruptcy.

Quietly the Congress changed the provisions and everything went back to normal.

Of course the proper thing to do would be to create a class of immigrant called farm worker with lower wages restricted to certain occupations, but then people like Pat and Craig jump and say: these immigrants are stealing our jobs, as if Fat Pat would ever be on his knees twelve hours a day picking broccoli.

Craig,re:"immi...". I agree with you. The PC will kill this country. The
'immi issue' will kill this country. It's amazing how powerful the
'racist card' works. It's amazing how US is not supposed to update
a '200+ years law'.

I say this once, in order for this country to accept more 'immi', she
must close the door, right this minutes, rethink how to keep the house
in order before accepting more 'immi'.

Actually, this is good news for 'future immi'. Who wants to immi to a
'xxxk up' country by 'immi lawyers'?

I think we should have more 'work visa'(NO loophole but that will
never work with the smart lawyers), vs. 'immi visa'.

"the u.s. was originally settled by immigrants" LOL -- and they did not come from Europe. By the way, the original settlers tried to stop the tide of illegal immigrants from Europe -- so we gave them blankets with smallpox and a bottle of rum and built weapons of mass destruction -- railroads.

Does GST know that most poor recent immigrants to the US favor tough immigration standards, because they know that new immigrants will be willing to take their jobs away from them by accepting lower pay? <gg>

true story.
