My understanding is that the correct translation of "Thou shalt not kill" is "Thou shalt not murder". Obviously that is somethig quite different to Gd. He had the Hebrews slaughtering everyone in sight- -and reveling in it. In any case, war has to be judged perfectly acceptable to Gd; he egged His People on in many of them. then Buddhism would be dead long ago. Pacifist can exist quite well if they are not the only members of a society or if the society has no enemies (rather unlikely). Why wouldn't the forces that took down communism (economic malfeasance) not end up destroying it anyway? They might. In time to keep a pacifist US from being conquered? Unlikely. And quite corrupt societies have continued running for long periods. They are more the rule than the exception. The Soviets would have been able to continue for much longer had the US not forced them into an arms race that destroyed their economic engine. Launch on warning? Idiocy.
