>> And if we built a wall around our country that would make everyone our friend?? Please. <<

i never said minding our own business would make everyone our friends, but it would sure make for a lot less enemies. i never said we had to be friends with the arab world, but how about we just let them work out their own wars and not get involved? also, as much as you would like to pigeonhole opponents to the new world order, the alternative to the new world order does not have to involve building a wall around your country. it does not necessarily mean "hunkering down" like others have tried to paint it.

>> As I said, it wasn't a cause. <<

and i am saying it wasn't the reason the depression was prolonged either.

>> Hello?? What is a tarriff if not a tax?? <<

not against americans, but as a protection for americans. tariffs were lowered in 1928 and 1929 before the great crash so obviously you are barking up the wrong tree.

>> Oh really now. I say globalism predates the very existence of America, though it may have been better known as colonialism back then <<

obviously we will accomplish little if we can't agree on the terms. obviously you and i have a different view of a new world order based on "free trade".

>> At the very least, the first stab a a "new world order", the League of Nations, came at a time when America was only viewed as a marginal first-rate power, much less the top of the heap. <<

oh yeah, those guys. the very guys i was referring to that called an international economic conference in 1927 whereby tariffs were lowered dramatically in 1928 & 1929, right before the crash. yeah, yeah, those guys.

>> But gee, wouldn't punishing the perpetrators be imposing our morality upon them? <<

absolutely. never have i said we didn't have a right to intervene when american lives are directly at stake. obviously we were attacked on our own soil. that is a far cry from intervening in matters that don't directly threat the safety of americans. in fact we foolishly put americans in harm's way. do you see the distinction i have made?

>> And what about countries that are our allies only BECAUSE we are such a close partner with them, and would turn on us if we withdrew our support? <<

what support? which allies are you referring to? most of our allies would not find it in their best interest to turn on us, even if we did withdraw.

you notice allies change all the time. this country came into being after opposing british rule. now our president says "there is no truer friend than great britain". we allied with countries like russia against hitler. after the war they were our arch enemies. now we are trying to ally with them again. we were against the japan, germany, and italy in WWII, now they are allies. at one time we supported iraq and were against iran. now we are against iraq and trying to improve relations with iran. we supported bin laden & afghanistan, no we are at odds. i could go on and on. is it becoming any clearer for you?

allies change all the time and if america is the greatest, dominant, powerful, and prosperous nation on the planet like you all claim, then we should dictate how we want to be allied. it is an extremely feeble argument to suggest that we should continue a foreign policy course that is not beneficial for us just because we don't want to make our allies mad. too bad. we have to do what's in the best interest of america, not what will keep our allies happy. what are they going to do? turn communist on us or go to war with us? they need us more than we need them, so we should dictate the terms of our alliances!
