Ten, Last time I checked, all modern-day processors have more than one instruction in the pipeline.

Modern, indeed, going back at least to the IBM 360.

Dear Tench:

You can't give a processor a clock of 2x when some operations take 1, 1.5, 2 and more. The ones that take 1.5 cycles still create bubbles and would only be considered to run at 2/3rds of clock at best. Intel's marketing department sure has you buffaloed.
