As you said, except that the point was deterrence...... SDI has not resulted in a fully developed system. That does not mean that it could not, with technological advances. As for getting in under the net, that is simply a different problem. It is like saying that because the Maginot Line didn't cover the border with Belgium, they should have taken away existing defenses. No, the Maginot Line did what it was supposed to, which is why the Wehrmacht went around it. The fault was in not defending the remaining flank........
