If you right click your clock (or anywhere on the taskbar), and select Properties, you'll get a chance to uncheck the Show Clock box.

I know of no problem with an inaccurate system clock. In fact, one band-aid for the year 2000 problem was to deliberately set the clock an earlier, but similar, year.

H G, incorrect time from the system clock should not hurt anything. That is if you or programs are not depending on the time stamps of the files that are created or modified. Example would be a process that is sorting files by date and time (Windows Explorer has this function to display or find files by date and time). Some install programs will compare the dates and time of the file that is currently on the system with the new file that is about to be copied to the system. Something you need to be aware of.

I have not replaced a battery on a system for many years. Removing the battery will not "damage" your system, however, some of the BIOS settings will be lost and could render your system inoperable. Have the values available so you can enter the settings again.

Had a similar problem with an old P90 system that would not keep accurate time. Instead of replacing the battery I installed this to update my clock every few hours via the internet:

arachnoid.com

I'm using it now on Win98SE and Win2K systems to update the clock once per day and keep the clock accurate.

Nick
