the point is Haim -- when the stuff hits the fan -- by the time they start bailing -- the stock price will have a 50 - 75% haircut.

I agree with oblomov 100%. FHA backing of FNM is implied only. By the time they would step in, the company would cease to exist as we know it.

I also agree with tippet, the upside is capped and FNM still is in need of castration. My personal take is that it will be one of the last nuts to crack.

FWIW, I am short FNM with a 77 1/2 basis.
