Yes, that's about the gist of it. The only thing that needs to be possible is to see the relative performance within a single line of products. Extending this so it fits for the "value" product would be nice (but not a necessity). E.g.:

Athlon Model 5500
Athlon Model 5300
Athlon Model 5100

Duron Model 4900
Duron Model 4700

Customers need to be able to tell (easily) which AMD CPU is better, but there's no need for a direct comparison in the model number with Intel CPUs. These cross-platform comparisons should be done with benchmarks (preferably of Real World programs).
