That's funny. When steam was invented people said that traveling with horses was safer and better and that railways were dangerous and noisy. Nobody could ever imagine that in a few years the world would be networked with railways. That is where we are now. But you know everything. Typing is more quiet and less obtrusive to neighbors, right?who wants to pay 20% more for what amounts to negligable performance improvements? That's the same question people were asking when Mcdonalds came out. Who would pay $1.99 for a hamburger that tastes like card-board and a coke? Apparently, over a billion. p.s. what kind of key board do you use, because when I type it wakes up my roommate? I'm serious, he gets mad when I make too much noise and wake him up. Skeeter Bug, get off this investment forum. Your just one of those computer freaks that think they're way is always right. Let me guess, you were probably predicting the down fall of Aol, huh?mainstream pcs are commodities now. niche products can and will exist - as niche products. What the hell is that suppost to mean? Do you even know what a commodity is? You're telling me it doesn't matter what kind of processor i use inside my computer? What kind of video card? What kind of ram? What kind of modem?not anywhere close to now. the prices of computers and components have collapsed. folks REFUSE to pay up for computers. $2k+ computers were common a few years ago. not now. Well, considering we live in a capitalistic society, prices tend to go down once competition enters the market. That's the idea anyhow business 101: if the price falls, volume increases. Even with the price of PCs falling INTC did 33.7 billion in revenue up from 26.7 billion in 1998 Dell went from $18.2 billion to $33.8 billion even though the price of PCs have fallen. Compaq did 31.1 billion in 1998. In 2000 they did 42.3 billion HP did 39.4 billion in 1998, yet in 2000 they did 48.7 billion So tell me again, if folks REFUSE to pay over 2k for a computer, then how are the OEMs and Intel increasing their revenues? I know, do you? You should read this link..fool.com Take particular notice to how Wal-Mart made gross margins drop from 35% to 21%. Even though Wal-Mart made gross margins drop in the retail industry, they've created billions of dollars of wealth.microsoft had it first DOWN earnings q in its history. they don't need me to tell them they are already screwed as their bubble pe falls in the grip of rational market gravity. intel has had it WORSE than msft. Now you're just talking out your a-hole. The first DOWN earnings doesn't mean Microsoft is a commodity company. Look at Micron if you want to see what happens when you produce a commodity.you are wrong. intel tried to dictate another memory standard and they LOST b/c the market drives intel, not the other way around. perhaps bilow will recall the name of the memory intel foisted on an unwanting market. this has happened before. when you are proven wrong, please be man enough to admit it to me on this thread. IF rmbs dominates dram then i will provide you the same courtesy. First, I've never claimed to know which memory will be the standard. Second, the game isn't over. Once you realize you have no idea how business works, will you please be man enough to admit it? Your computer nerd side is taking over and keeps you from making rational thoughts. I swear. Computer nerds have gotten it wrong so many times, it's not even funny.they don't. never said they do. what they care about IS THE PRICE OF THE COMPUTER. how you got off on such a tangent, i don't know. If price was the only factor, AMD would control the market, because they have the best price/speed ratio! But you know this already.please provide some links to these reports and the pricing. i've already said that under certain circumstances, rdram performs better. under others, i've read it doesn't. tell me, how much faster can i type this note with rdram? you see the tree, but not the forest. Right, if you want to run word RDRAM isn't faster. RDRAM wasn't made to run basic applications like word. It was made for other things, which is why Intel selected it.you are entitled to disregard basic economic decision making. it is, and has been, at your own risk. facts will follow the basic economics here. i predicted rmbs' troubles quite a few years ago, on this thread, based on a quick, albeit basic (basic was ALL that was needed), economic analysis. my view panned out. just like my declaration after micron filed their suit that said rmbs committed fraud at jedec - here on this thread. common sense is not common b/c it is not understood by all. especially folks who have a financial and emotional interest. Skeet, you haven't predicted anything. First, stock price does not indicate anything. If that was the case, then I could easily say DDR lost, because Micron and the other MMs are losing so much money it is insane. 1. show us all equally rdram boxes within $40 of equally configured ddr boxes. 2. show us all the information behind the tests that showed rdram outperformed ddr. No. You didn't back up any of your facts. Why should I do that for you?
