Don't people in the west complain that poor public schools are just warehousing kids?
Same stuff, different continent. In the last week, in the wake of recent events, India banned an organization called Student Islamic movement of India. In the process there were articles that there are thousands of Madrassahs in India as well!. The recipe seems similar, vast poor populations disillusioned with regular education that is often a dead end for many, Middle eastern Money thrown around without sufficient oversight on how it is spent, goals etc.
Maybe the US can go through the motions of some fireworks to appease the international media crowd on the rooftops of Peshawar, then turn over the nation building tasks in Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Scandanavians, aussies, canadians japanese etc. These countries have long experience of providing aid without strings attached, Any US aid should be funnelled thru non governmental organizations, and more should come from the people to the NGO's bypassing the self important idealogues of all stripes in Washington and its think tanks
