Ah, the Great Game version .2001, who gets to run a pipeline from the Indian Ocean to Central Asia ... ever read Michener's 'Caravan'? ... it was fourty years ago my third reading on Afghanistan, after some Kipling and a National Geographic from the 1920s, in which the author plays Ur-polo with local tribesmen near Balkh using as a ball a goatskin sewed up and sealed with tar .... only black and white fotos but they showed the beauty of the place, i've always wanted to see it, great horses

We should speak english here, sorry i started that, the Proceso article just stuck out ... great magazine eh ... here's another - proceso.com.mx
... silly to worry about being 'subordinated' to the US in declaring a willingness to cooperate against terrorism, imho - what exactly means that declaration will be worked out down the road by all parties concerned, if there come new shades of Manifest Destiny they will be readily apparent and promptly dealt with ... to colour reasonable cooperation as becoming 'hangers-on' is ridiculous, it is the right and human thing to do to combat terrorism in all its forms, and those who help will get some voice in how the definitions are made up, ideally ... well there i'm relying on Bush hijo's 'juntos podemos' rhetoric aren't i ... but it really doesn't sound like the Porfiriato redux ... maybe the problem is in the terms, Dubya calling it a 'war' and then asking for allies from among those firmly and deeply neutral ...

Canada has no illusions about the pledging of strong support being the signing of carte blanche to do anything and everything US commercial and military interests can think up ... one hopes -g- .... but we don't want terrorists in our country, and neither should mexicanos .... as a practical matter, if we permit them entry, there goes free trade ... but we shouldn't need that to act, imho

Unocal story is known in US - to those, who want to find out, first-exchange.com for instance - and much more in one of the 2001 New Yorkers.
