I have a suggested minor modification for that one to take current circumstances into account:

Kirk's mind raced as he quickly assessed his situation: the shields were down, the warp drive and impulse engines were dead, life support was failing fast, and the Enterprise was plummeting out of control toward the surface of Epsilon VI and, as Scotty and Spock searched frantically through the manuals trying to find a way to save them all, Kirk suddenly remembered with a sickening jolt as he stared at the solid blue image filling the main view screen, that if he failed to upgrade his ship's operating system to Windows XXXXXXXXXXP within the next four days, he would no longer be entitled to Starfleet's "Microsoft Customer Protection" discount.

By the way, I'm familiar with that contest (is it at UCSD? somewhere around there) as one of my sons got an honorable mention in 1999 when he was a sophomore in college on the east coast. The winner that year was good, but not as good as the Star Trek one.

Edit: Oh, he says San Jose State.
