To: Cooters who wrote (15392 ) 10/2/2001 6:28:52 PM From: Maurice Winn Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 197058 <SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 2001--QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced an evolutionary path which it projects would enable CDMA2000 operators around the world to increase their voice network capacity by a factor of two when the evolved handsets are widely deployed. This increase is accomplished above and beyond the nearly twofold voice capacity improvement provided by third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1X systems. The improvements in voice network capacity, data services efficiency and overall quality of service are achieved within the existing technical specifications for CDMA2000, eliminating backward and forward compatibility issues and the need for development of a new standard. > Who thinks that Bill Frezza, hereby dragged out of his bunker for his scheduled ritual Talebanic flogging, [hmmm, with a turban and a beard, he would bear a remarkable resemblance to Osama], will apologize for his allegations of fraud in regard to the theoretical spectrum capacity which Irwin Jacobs said might be possible way back in 1989? There have been a lot of claims over the years by many cynical commentators in the media and from the hagfish world that QUALCOMM was full of it in regard to the spectrum capacity improvements they could achieve. Well, it seems that the most optimistic of those theoretical possibilities are starting to loom over the horizon. The credibility of the press and GSM Guild takes another hit below the waterline. The old 10:1 CDMA advantage is starting to look like 40:1. So, what's that going to do to GSM, GPRS and The Bleeding EDGE competitive position? Not to mention VW40 which is still in the ethereal phases. VW40 might have trouble keeping up, even if QUALCOMM works diligently to make it work as well as possible. With the Spotlight directional two-stick antennae to further improve capacity, the whole world's requirements will fit into a single 1.25MHz channel if this process continues. The limit will be our puny brain capacity to absorb the digital data cdma2000 tsunami. Mqurice
