LU News - Lucent Technologies Gains Cingular Wireless Contract for Network Expansion biz.yahoo.com MURRAY HILL, N.J., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced a five-year general purchase agreement with Cingular Wireless, the nation's second largest wireless carrier serving more than 21 million subscribers in the United States. Under terms of the agreement, Lucent will supply mobile network equipment including base stations, software and professional services to Cingular Wireless in 30 markets, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. These solutions will enable Cingular to immediately increase capacity and coverage of its current-generation mobile network and provide investment protection. Lucent's Flexent(TM) family of mobile switching centers and base stations and software will be used to enhance and expand the Cingular network. ``Cingular's network continues to expand and we're pleased to be one of their key suppliers,'' said Joe McCarthy vice president for sales, Lucent Technologies. ``Our relationship with Cingular Wireless further demonstrates Lucent's continuing leadership in the wireless market in North America.'' This is the first general purchase agreement between Lucent and Cingular.
