Eventually.... They are the primary nations that possess the ability to produce biological and chemical weapons.

And Iran, which recently has shown promise of reverting to democracy and reapproachment with the west, will likely see increasing disaffection with the ayatollahs who control the military and security apparatus in that society. I certainly can see the US providing support to dissident elements there in the future..

And then I'm sure Iraq will be on the agenda, and eventually Syria, who's current leader is western educated and trained as a eye doctor, and probably looking for the means to undercut the more extreme elements in his government.

Btw, you need carriers if you can't rely upon having actual airbases on the ground. They also provide some "safe zones" for US assets outside of Pakistan, where any introduction of troops and equipment makes them vulnerable to attacks from militants.

Overall though, I believe our strategy over the long term is pretty much to support those elements who desire to overthrow the Taliban and Bin Laden (who is really the real power propping up the Taliban).

Btw, I'm sure a few less than "veiled threats" have been made against the Taliban from BL organization.. Basically, if BL goes, he will take the Taliban leadership with him..

BL is a caged rat right now... nowhere to go, and his ability to hide decreasing with every threat against his "protectors" he makes. Someone's finally going to rat on the guy eventually. And then we'll have him and his extended family of 4 wives and 50 kids trapped.
