You misheard Petz. He was, I think, saying that the use of the XP suffix would lead to retail store employees making this claim. He was not arguing the truth of it.

Microsoft loves AMD.

AMD brought box prices down by about $1000 when it introduced competition to the PC CPU market. However bad sales are now, they'd be a lot worse if PC's were selling for $1,500 to $3,000 instead of $500 to $2,000.

Microsoft makes the same amount whether the box sells for $500 or $2,500.

Athlon 4 and Athlon MP special instructions are all integrated into Windows XP.

Microsoft loves AMD.
