Art and Andre,

I tend to agree with Andre concerning space. I have a 3.3 MP camera with a 192MB card (Sandisk engineering part!) that I took with me for ten days in S.E. Asia. With the exception of a two-day hike up Mt. Kinabalu in Borneo, I dumped all my pictures onto a laptop each night (not because of space, but because I wanted to see them). I always had tons of space, and could have gotten away with a 48MB card, and certainly a 64MB card, particularly considering the option of deleting some less-choice pictures if worse comes to worse.

Anyway, that's just my 3.3M bits,

Steve

Andre and Steve, those are good points. Certainly if you have more than one card, you can do without the higher capacity cards. Also if you are able to download periodically, you don't need as much capacity.

Since most of my shots end up as prints, I tend to use the highest resolution, uncompressed setting on my 2.1 mp camera. I frequently find a need to crop the view, creating a need for the highest resolution. So far, I have been using only my single 96 mb card, transferring images to my computer at fairly infrequent intervals (partly because I'm running out of storage space on my computer and need to buy external archiving disks).

A recent set of shots I made illustrates a typical application for me. I took some 30 high resolution shots at a class reunion. That pretty well uses up my 96 mb card.
