This is certainly an interesting development. Corporate buyers may have qualms about buying AMD systems but I doubt they will have the same problem buying a Celeron over a P4. I wonder if Dell will try and avoid selling them to corporates.

Wonder how many Intel will actually produce??

At this point I think all of Intel's .13u capacity to going to Tualatin which includes Celeron .13u. One fab running 100% would be about 1-1.25 million units a week. My guess.

Dear Heatsinker2:

There are a few problems with the platforms used:

1) Why not a SIS 735 based board for the Duron as the ECS K7S5A is both cheap and available not to mention faster? Or a newer KT266A or Nforce based one? The Gigabyte is one of the slower 760 based ones IIRC.

2) Why allow the Celeron and others to use CAS2 PC133, but not PC2100 CAS2 (222) instead of PC2100 CAS3 (233 is 2T, RAS3, CAS3, the slowest possible DDR settings)?

3) Did they do a clean install of Windows to turn on SSE for Duron (Morgan core) which is a big help to Sysmark scores?

4) Why not compare to Athlon at 1.2 (at least as cheap as any of the Intel ones)?

For these reasons, I suspect the scores returned do not show the true picture.
