I just disagree.

I think ALL of the former Presidents should be keeping their own counsel, except in the most generic "supportive" way. (For example the prayer breakfast where all the former presidents appeared jointly) Any time they "voice their opinion" beyond simply stating full support for the Administration there is the potential that they will misspeak as he did or have their words misconstrued by others. It just throws another potentially complicating element into an already complex situation. As to the ultimate significance of his comments, that would be extremely hard to judge, but if they contributed even one iota to the stature of the declared enemy, he did this country a disservice. You simply cannot "unring" a bell. So whatever damage may or may not have been done is "done".

Also, just as importantly, I believe former Presidents "owe" it to the sitting President to remain in the background during a time of crisis so that the focus of leadership should remain where it belongs. On the Commander In Chief.

I'm not going to get too upset about it either, I just hope he will STFU.<g>
