1280 * 1024 and 1600 * 1200 are what I use; primarily the former these days. 21" monitor. In 1280 * 1024 I display 9 charts at a time.

Your charts themselves should not appear "small"; the use of a higher resolution affords more screen real estate primarily because things like caption bars, window borders, buttons, etc are smaller.

You can adjust your Windows display settings to use Large Fonts if its the text that you find too small for your needs - that will help some.
