The point here is just the opposite, that offense is no substitute for defense. We're underway with offense, as is our habit for many decades. We're damn good at it, just not very discriminate as to who, why, and how. And we have, until now, completely forgotten about defense here at home.

No one in the world doubts our military ability, except the unfortunate Taleban, and my sense, after their ambassador's interview tonight, is that they have a strong suspicion of being in extremely hot water. The next two days should see some fireworks, over there.

Meanwhile, nearly one hundred million adult males are looking for ways to increase their own and their families' security, along with an equal number of adult females, and lots of younger folk. This is the huge untapped resource, that Ridge should make first priority.

Having a strong homeland defense gives our overseas military more flexibility on when and how to take action, with reduced worry about retaliation, i.e., the reason we are engaged in the first place.
