But Americans destroyed the places where Native American's lived and replaced them with new settlements. If Israel stopped destroying Palestinian houses and building new settlements today, would you accept its right to exist? Tim

Tom, you are obviously very young, and/or very misinformed. The houses being bulldozed have either long been abandoned by their owners, or they were thrown out by the PLO because they were good firing points on women and children. The PLO, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad, all prefer to kill women and children because they arent armed, and cant shoot back. You may recall the Jordanian soldier who fired upon a group of Israeli schoolgirls who were out for their lunch time gym class killing over a dozen of them. Maybe you dont have any sisters, so you cant imagine what the last few minutes of a dying child's life are like, while she wonders why she was shot while playing with her friends at school. The settlements that are most often complained about are spillover towns outside Jerusalem, which is not unlike any town you may have lived in, which expands out. I am going to assume that you have never been in Jerusalem, and dont understand the geography, but these "settlements" are just over the hill from the major sections of Jerusalem, which is the same as saying that if there wasnt a hill there, they would be the natural growth of Jerusalem. Prior to 1947, all the people, (there werent many) who lived in what is now known as Israel were known as Palestinians, including the local Jews. The Arab Palestinians were offered half of Israel in 1947, but chose to fight for all. They lost. Did you even know that the 1947 partition didnt even include all of Jerusalem? Thats right, Jordan controlled it, until they made the mistake of invading Israel in 1967 and they lost it. I imagine it is your position that Israel should give that back too? Go to the library and learn, instead of repeating the media fed propaganda.
