Frankly, I am very much in favor of the increased Russian influence. IMO, we have been very slow to get out of the cold war mentality. The interests of the US and Russia are now almost parallel. We have a huge market for their natural resources and they have a huge market for our agricultural products. We both posses technologies that are mutually advantageous. I think, but am still not sure, that Putin can control both the oligarchs and the enormous corruption that Russia dissolved into.

We both have a vital interest in curbing terrorism and that is primary. We both have a vital interest in having world stability, and that is even more vital. Moreover, Russia, given adequate resources is both geographically and politically in the most currently vital area of the world. We need them to be strong.
