Actually, with pretty much linear pricing increments, you may just as well go with 1.3 or 1.4

Except for the fact that they may require more power and generate more heat. If I was upgradeing my Duron to an Athlon 1.3 or 1.4 I might have to get a new power supply and a new fan.

alas my mohterboard can't take anything above 1.1. i am even suspicious about 1.1 and thinking about getting a 1g. i don't want to get a new motherboard.
